Since
2000, I have provided private psychotherapy services to adult
individuals, couples and groups. To me, being a therapist is more a
calling than a profession. I love to come to work each day, listen to
my clients and use my skills and experience to help them find a sense of well being, cope with their problems and achieve their goals.
In
addition to my private practice, I was an adjunct professor at St.
Edwards University in Austin for three years. While there, I taught in
the master’s degree counseling program.
From 1993 until 2002, I
provided individual, group and family counseling for adults with
depression and severe mental illness in psychiatric hospitals in
Atlanta and Austin. This opportunity enabled me to work with adults of
all ages, including many older adults.
While on staff at
Austin’s Shoal Creek hospital for several years, I helped develop the
hospital's first outpatient groups in cognitive behavioral therapy.
These groups were designed to help individuals with depressed mood
and/or anxieties. We taught and encouraged patients to develop
effective coping skills to help them identify, challenge and reframe
negative self-talk and self-defeating behaviors.
Within my
private practice, I have offered and facilitated groups on step
parenting and integrating blended families, managing anxiety, and
managing life stress. I am also beginning a group for women only on
coping with issues related to peri-menopause and menopause. Please see
my Group Counseling page for more information.
Austinites
since 1995, my husband and I have been married for 19 years. We have three grown stepchildren; hence my
interest in step-parenting issues and integrating blended families.

In addition to traditional talk-therapy practice, I provide the option for my clients to include faith-based or spiritual-based counseling in their ongoing therapy.
As a general rule, both faith-based counseling and secular counseling
share the same desire to help people overcome problems, find
meaning and joy in life, and become healthy and well-adjusted
individuals, both mentally and emotionally.
Faith-based
counseling adds another dimension to traditional talk-therapy by
incorporating the principles and commands of a client's religious
beliefs. If you would like to include your spiritual or religious
beliefs in our counseling sessions, please let me know. No matter what
your faith, I can help you apply the tenets of your beliefs within
traditional therapeutic practices.

is the most-productive way to help you achieve your goals.
